The Hed Unity headphones cost $2,200. That’s not quite all you need to know about them, but the price definitely is the important part. What makes these so insanely expensive? And in what world would you ever buy headphones that cost as much as a good computer?
They’re beautifully designed, but that doesn’t quite justify it. And they sound great, too. But what really makes these headphones stand out is the fact that they’re among the first to do audio over Wi-Fi, and not just Bluetooth. Theoretically, that should make them sound even better, because Wi-Fi audio means they can do lossless playback. But a couple thousand dollars better? Is that even possible?
And then there’s the fact that they’re kind of giant. And don’t even come with a 3.5mm audio cable.
The Hed Unity aren’t for everyone. But maybe that’s the point. Maybe they’re going to be a status symbol for audiophiles more than anything else. Headphones for those who need everyone around them to ask “What are those THINGS?”
And then they’ll ask how much they cost. And you’ll tell them. And they’ll gasp.
That’s sort of the Hed Unity in a nutshell. Really good. REALLY expensive.
